About the Course

This course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. All materials are provided. The Hunter Education Classroom Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of classroom instruction. This time does not include registration, breaks, test administration and certification card distribution. Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors. The fee for the certification is $15. Some instructors may apply additional charges for the class, such as range or facility fees. Pre-registration is required. Check with the instructor for directions and any special instructions prior to going to class.

When you arrive at the course:

  1. Pay the fee to the instructor.
  2. Attend the entire course.
  3. Take the written exam and get at least 75% correct to pass.
  4. Upon successful completion, you may receive a temporary card from the instructor. You may legally hunt with a valid Texas hunting license and your temporary certification card. Your permanent Texas Hunter Education certification card will be available for downloading and printing from your Account Profile.

Texas Archery in Spring will host a Hunters Ed class for any sportsman born after 1971 and is over nine years of age.  This class will be for the ENTIRE certification, if you have previously done online and are looking for just a field class you will have to contact TPWD or sign up and attend a classroom class. The class will start promptly at 9am and is scheduled to end by 5pm. There is a 50 questions test at the end of the day and we don’t mind helping with those that need accommodations for reading.  We do ask that phones are put up and only used for an emergency to help speed up the process of the class.  This class will be $35 to cover all expenses, please bring it in cash to the class. There will be an additional fee of $7 to have pizza for lunch.  We will break for lunch, but will not leave you are welcome to bring any snack or food you are wanting to eat. Parents and or grandparents are welcome to sit with the youth but please limit it to only one. Upon completion and passing of the test your Hunters Ed certification will be online and you will be emailed a link to look it up and print it out.  If you don’t have access to that link it is under education on the “Am I Certified” button.  When registering if it is a minor leave the “Drivers License” field blank.  For all other questions please call or text Sheryl at (409)382-9422.
