Dove 101 Classroom. This is a NON-FIRING class, DO NOT BRING FIREARMS into the building. TPWD Biologist and Webless Migratory Game Bird (DOVES!) Program Manager Owen Fitzsimmons will present everything you need to know to successfully hunt doves in Texas. Topics covered include: • Dove Biology (species, geographic locations, habitat, breeding & behaviors, aging and mortality rates; plus conservation efforts/status) • Game Laws (MyHH app, harvest, tagging (preserve wing), shooting hours, zones, season “splits”, look up by county, etc.) • Hunting Techniques & Methods (Ethical Shots/Shot Placement, gauge, shot size, choke, decoys, dove seats, calls, etc.); dog talk • "Cyber-scouting", TPWD public hunting land access, in-person scouting and hunting setups • Safety (“Zones of Fire”, swinging on game, statistics, loading/unloading vehicle, case, cross fence, APH parking lot, etc. ) • Wing Shooting/Marksmanship Techniques (Patterning, judging distances, lethality [dove hunting lethality/mortality study]) • Field to Table (Field dressing/cleaning, freezing, cooking, trophy mounting).
