About the Course

Anyone born on or after September 1, 1993 who wishes to operate certain vessels on the public waterways of Texas. See Water Safety Act for details. Boating courses are taught by TPWD Boater Education certified instructors, US Coast Guard Auxiliary and game wardens. With more and more people enjoying the lakes and rivers every year, it's important, for everyone, that boaters educate themselves on boating skills and seamanship. All classes are a minimum of six hours. More questions? Check our FAQ page.
This is an all-day class put on by United States Power Squadrons local Houston unit. Pay tuition of $35 at http://uspshouston.org/basic-boating-class/ by Thursday before the class date. Use the Add to Cart button for the location and date of your class. If you want (or must have) the state certify that you passed this course, use the Register now button on this TPWD page. You may use the TPWD Certification Add to Cart button on our website to pay for state certification. If you don't pay online, on the day of the class we will collect the state plus squadron fee in cash or check made payable to HSPS for the state certification.  If you do not register with TPWD before the class for the state to certify you, we will have to take extra time to register you online during the day of the class. Call Randy Pike at 713-825-9460 with questions, such as why it is a good idea for people not subject to the law to also have the state certify they passed.
