About the Course

Anyone born on or after September 1, 1993 who wishes to operate certain vessels on the public waterways of Texas. See Water Safety Act for details. Boating courses are taught by TPWD Boater Education certified instructors, US Coast Guard Auxiliary and game wardens. With more and more people enjoying the lakes and rivers every year, it's important, for everyone, that boaters educate themselves on boating skills and seamanship. All classes are a minimum of six hours. More questions? Check our FAQ page.
Texas has more than 1,260,000 surface acres of freshwater lakes, 2,111,000 surface acres of saltwater bays, and some 80,000 miles of rivers and streams. Each year, Texans use motorboats, sailboats, canoes, kayaks, and rafts on these waterways for swimming, fishing, skiing, pleasure cruising, and hunting. It is essential that boat operators and their passengers act responsibly and safely. The boat Texas safety education course is designed to give you a basic knowledge of water safety laws, boats types, and safe and courteous boat operation. It is not only for beginning boaters but also includes information for experienced boaters who want to refresh their knowledge and stay abreast of new boating laws.
