About the Course

Anyone born on or after September 1, 1993 who wishes to operate certain vessels on the public waterways of Texas. See Water Safety Act for details. Boating courses are taught by TPWD Boater Education certified instructors, US Coast Guard Auxiliary and game wardens. With more and more people enjoying the lakes and rivers every year, it's important, for everyone, that boaters educate themselves on boating skills and seamanship. All classes are a minimum of six hours. More questions? Check our FAQ page.
The About Boating Safely course is taught by US Coast Guard Auxiliary Instructors. It is a one-day, eight-hour program designed for both new and veteran boaters and anyone who wants to learn more about recreational boating. The classroom is located at Pier 121 Marina, in the 'Yellow Building' at the top of the parking lot overlooking the marina. The cost is $30 for the Coast Guard Auxiliary course only and an additional $10 for the Texas parks and Wildlife Certification.
