About the Course

Anyone born on or after September 1, 1993 who wishes to operate certain vessels on the public waterways of Texas. See Water Safety Act for details. Boating courses are taught by TPWD Boater Education certified instructors, US Coast Guard Auxiliary and game wardens. With more and more people enjoying the lakes and rivers every year, it's important, for everyone, that boaters educate themselves on boating skills and seamanship. All classes are a minimum of six hours. More questions? Check our FAQ page.
The About Boating Safely course is taught by US Coast Guard Auxiliary Instructors. It is a one-day, eight-hour program from 8 AM through 5PM, designed for both new and veteran boaters and anyone who wants to learn more about recreational boating. Some topics are Rules of Navigation, Required Equipment, Common Sense on the Water, Boat Handling, Safety and Legal requirements, Trailering and Personal Watercraft safety. The classroom is located at Denison Station #3, 3306 S Park Ave, Denison, TX 75020. The course consists of the Coast Guard Auxiliary About Boating Safely course and Texas-specific boating education material regarding boating safety, rules and requirements. Successful completion of the testing will result in a US Coast Guard Certificate of Completion and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Boating Education certificate.
