About the Course

Anyone born on or after September 1, 1993 who wishes to operate certain vessels on the public waterways of Texas. See Water Safety Act for details. Boating courses are taught by TPWD Boater Education certified instructors, US Coast Guard Auxiliary and game wardens. With more and more people enjoying the lakes and rivers every year, it's important, for everyone, that boaters educate themselves on boating skills and seamanship. The USCG Auxiliary About Boating Safely course is a 7-hour course designed for all boaters, young boaters, hunters, fishermen, personal watercraft operators, and anyone who wants to learn more about recreational boating. Classes are from 9 am to 4 pm on Saturdays. Learn about:
  • Trailering your boat or personal watercraft
  • Rules of Navigation - who has the right of way on the water?
  • Inland lakes boat operations, navigation, piloting
  • Required equipment - what you should carry on the water
  • Personal watercraft
  • Common sense boating......and more!
