About the Course

Anyone born on or after September 1, 1993 who wishes to operate certain vessels on the public waterways of Texas. See Water Safety Act for details. Boating courses are taught by TPWD Boater Education certified instructors, US Coast Guard Auxiliary and game wardens. With more and more people enjoying the lakes and rivers every year, it's important, for everyone, that boaters educate themselves on boating skills and seamanship. All classes are a minimum of six hours. More questions? Check our FAQ page.
This is an all-day class put on by America’s Boating Club – the United States Power Squadrons local Houston unit.  The tuition for this class is $35, and you may pay at the class.  The Squadron will pay the TPWD fees for this class,  and provide lunch.  Assorted Sandwiches, cold baked beans and probably potato salad and something to drink.  If you have some sort of food allergy, let me know and we will accommodate you if possible. The tuition is $35. That includes lunch and the TPWD fee.  You may pay at the door.    Please use the Register now button on this TPWD page.  While all payments go thru America's Boating Club, it is still necessary to register w/ TPWD if you want their certification.  If you do not register with TPWD before the class, for the state to certify you, we will have to take extra time to register you online during the day of the class. Call Chris Leavitt at 713-517-2204 with questions. The class will start about 0800 and you can expect to start the test around 1530.  There are 60 questions, most students complete the exam in less than an hour.  We won't leave until you are done, so there is no rush.  Well, I do have to be home by midnight .... We will be following the current guidelines for Covid-19.  Be prepared to spend the day in a mask (bring your own - more comfortable) and there will be masks available for those of us who forget! If you have any questions call, Chris Leavitt 7123-517-2204.
