About the Course

This course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and bowhunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. All materials are provided. The Bowhunter Education Classroom Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of classroom instruction. This time does not include registration, breaks, test administration and certification card distribution. Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors. The fee for the certification is $15. Some instructors may apply additional charges for the class, such as range or facility fees. Pre-registration is required. Check with the instructor for directions and any special instructions prior to going to class.

When you arrive at the course:

  1. Pay the fee to the instructor.
  2. Attend the entire course.
  3. Take the written exam and get at least 75% correct to pass.
  4. Upon successful completion, you may receive a temporary card from the instructor. You may legally hunt with a valid Texas hunting license and your temporary certification card. Your permanent Texas Hunter Education certification card will be available for downloading and printing from your Account Profile.

LOCATION:  2335 Richmond Parkway (also known as Williams Way), Richmond 77469 DIRECTIONS:  If coming from Houston: take 59 South past Sugar Land and the exit to 99/Grand Parkway. IMMEDIATELY, get in the right lane: the Williams Way exit is at the top of the Grand Parkway overpass.  Turn RIGHT at Williams Way. About a mile further on (through a traffic light and Stop sign) is a large brick sign that says RICHMOND; keep going to the next gate / road into Long Acres Ranch which is on the RIGHT side (east) across from Circle Seven Road which goes into Veranda subdivision.  If you get to the Church (or the Jail) on the left, you have gone too far. DETAILS:  This is an instructor-led Basic Classroom course with videos, discussions and hands-on Skills Trail and Live Fire (we provide everything). BRING: water, hat, sunglasses, wear closed-toe shoes and be prepared for the outdoors → hot or cold. BRING snacks and beverages and your lunch – you can eat and drink in the classroom. BRING a hiliter to mark information in the manual you will be given. BRING $15.00 CASH = class fee. A parent is required to sign documents for students 16 and younger. FYI parents: you may be grandfathered in Texas and not want to take Bowhunter Ed, but the certification will be required if you want to hunt at some Texas locations as well as by some Texas landowners.
