About the Course

This course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. All materials are provided. The Hunter Education Classroom Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of classroom instruction. This time does not include registration, breaks, test administration and certification card distribution. Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors. The fee for the certification is $15. Some instructors may apply additional charges for the class, such as range or facility fees. Pre-registration is required. Check with the instructor for directions and any special instructions prior to going to class.

Be sure to verify with the instructor that the class you are registering for is the Classroom Course.

You may also contact your local Texas Parks and Wildlife Department office or call TPWD Austin headquarters at 1-800-792-1112, ext. 4999.

When you arrive at the course:

  1. Pay the fee to the instructor.
  2. Attend the entire course.

Hello, my name is Debbie Ferrell. I work with the Texas Training Crew and will be the lead instructor for our next TPWD Hunter Education class on Saturday, June 9, 2018. Thank you for navigating the TPWD Online Reservation System (ORS) and signing up for that class. As a reminder, each student must be registered in the ORS. For example, if a parent/guardian and child are attending the class to get Hunter Ed certified, both must register in ORS. If the parent/guardian already has their Hunter Ed certification and wants to stay for class, they are more than welcome to join us (but please be sure the child is registered in their name). There are maps and answers to frequently asked questions at http://markethallshow.com/student-information/, and below is a quick summary: The class will be held at the Dallas Market Hall, during the Dallas Arms Collectors Association gun show. The street address for the location is: 2200 North Stemmons Freeway  Dallas, TX 75207 Please plan to arrive by 8:45. Go to Dock 5 which is on the North side of the Northeast corner of Dallas Market Hall. We will have a team member meet students at that door and escort them to the classroom. DACA covers all costs for the class, including the state registration fees (i.e., there is no charge for entry to the show, and no charge to you for the class). If the student is a minor (under 17 years old), an authorized adult must stay long enough to sign the TPWD registration form so that student can participate in the class. Please note that while a student under 9 years old may take the Hunter Education Course, the minimum age of certification is 9 years. The class begins at 9:00 AM and is 6 hours of classroom instruction including practical exercises in safe firearm handling and obstacle crossing. There is a written exam (multiple choice questions) at the end of the class, and the student must score at least 75% to pass.  We should conclude the class around 4:00 PM. We will take a break for lunch around noon, so please either bring something for lunch, or you can shop at the food court in the gun show. Students are responsible for their own lunch and transportation needs. Please do not bring firearms or ammunition to class; all class materials are supplied by the instructor. For safety purposes, NO LIVE AMMUNITION IN THE CLASSROOM! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for continuing a rich tradition of hunting and conservation. I look forward to meeting you on Saturday June 9, 2018. Sincerely, Debbie Ferrell TPWD Volunteer Instructor debm642001@gmail.com 512-360-7506 - Text / Voice 214-444-8821 - Texas Training Crew
