About the Course

This course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. All materials are provided. The Hunter Education Classroom Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of classroom instruction. This time does not include registration, breaks, test administration and certification card distribution. Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors. The fee for the certification is $15. Some instructors may apply additional charges for the class, such as range or facility fees. Pre-registration is required. Check with the instructor for directions and any special instructions prior to going to class.

When you arrive at the course:

  1. Pay the fee to the instructor.
  2. Attend the entire course.
  3. Take the written exam and get at least 75% correct to pass.
  4. Upon successful completion, you may receive a temporary card from the instructor. You may legally hunt with a valid Texas hunting license and your temporary certification card. Your permanent Texas Hunter Education certification card will be available for downloading and printing from your Account Profile.

We are looking forward to our Hunter Education course Friday July 24th, at 9AM. We will be at the Galveston County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension/4-H office at 4102-B Main St. La Marque, TX 77568. Please enter Carbide Park. This is the first building on the left past the tennis courts. The course will begin at 9am and end at approximately 3pm. Individuals will be told when to communicate when to pick them up. Lunch will be provided. Please email instructor any dietary restrictions 2 weeks before. *Parents – please plan to stay with your youth the entire day. "AgriLife Extension is not chaperoning this event. The individual parent/guardian or their designee that brings the youth to the event is the chaperone and is expected to stay at the event location." We will be outside for a small portion of the day so please come prepared for that. Make sure your name and birthdate you enter to register with is correct to the person getting certified – certification cards are directly linked to the registration information! If you need to edit/cancel/reregister – please do so! Each child will need their own email address. You can not use an email address already inputted in the TPWD system.
