About the Course
This course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. All materials are provided. The Hunter Education Classroom Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of classroom instruction. This time does not include registration, breaks, test administration and certification card distribution. Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors. The fee for the certification is $15. Some instructors may apply additional charges for the class, such as range or facility fees. Pre-registration is required. Check with the instructor for directions and any special instructions prior to going to class.Be sure to verify with the instructor that the class you are registering for is the Classroom Course.
You may also contact your local Texas Parks and Wildlife Department office or call TPWD Austin headquarters at 1-800-792-1112, ext. 4999.When you arrive at the course:
- Pay the fee to the instructor.
- Attend the entire course.
- Take the written exam and get at least 75% correct to pass.
- Upon successful completion, you may receive a temporary card from the instructor. You may legally hunt with a valid Texas hunting license and your temporary certification card. Your permanent Texas Hunter Education certification card will be available for downloading and printing from your Account Profile.
Owners Chad and Valerie McLean and their staff of the Sendero Shooting Sports, Belton, Texas, are offering their large classroom for a Hunter Education Classroom Course from 10:30 am till about 4:30pm Saturday Oct.11. Texas Hunter Education volunteer instructors will be conducting the class. Since this is a classroom only course, there will be no live fire instructions during the course. If interested in shooting instructions, please contact the range office for special gun safety and shooting instructor taught classes. The shooting ranges are open from 10am till about 9pm, youth students with parents can arrange to practice shooting on one of the firing ranges after class, but not during class time. Students must register online to reserve a seat to the class and to be on the classroom roster. If unable to attend, please log back in to cancel your reservation so someone on the waiting list can attend. Students can bring snacks and drinks to the classroom, since we will be instructing through the lunch period. The cost for the course is $15 plus $5.00 facilities fee for a total of $20.00 cash, please pay cash to the instructors upon arrival. Occasional breaks will be provided during the course. Cased personal rifles can be checked in at the front desk and kept in the classroom if wanting to use the range after the classroom course is dismissed. No ammo is allowed in the classroom. After class for those that want practice on the gun ranges must pay the range fees to the shooting range staff.
