The door will open for registration at 8:15AM and the class will begin at 9:00AM. We will have some light breakfast snacks (e.g., kolaches/donuts) during registration. We will have lunch brought in at noon, which will likely be Subway sandwiches or pizza. We will have bottled water and sodas but if you want to drink something else, feel free to bring it and you can put it in our cooler. IF YOU OR YOUR STUDENT HAS ANY FOOD ALLERGIES, PLEASE CALL ME TO DISCUSS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE SO WE CAN PLAN ACCORDINGLY (979-571-6545).
We will provide the class materials and pens/pencils but feel free to bring a notepad if you want to take additional notes. Below are some very important reminders, requests, and guidelines to make sure everyone has an enjoyable experience.
If you or your student needs special accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act to participate in the course (physical or learning disability accommodations), please contact me immediately so we can make the proper arrangements (979-571-6545).
Please bring a jacket or sweater in case it gets cold in the classroom or outside. We will be going outside for some activities if the weather permits, so wear shoes and clothes that are comfortable for walking.
For our younger students (9 - 10), we recommend a parent stay with them but it is not mandatory. We've found that the long hours can be tougher on the younger students and a parent can help keep them focused. We really want everyone to have the best chance possible to absorb enough to pass the class.
Cell phone service is spotty inside the building due to the metal roof. As such, in case of emergency and you cannot reach me, please call Meadow Ridge at 936-569-9880DSC East Texas is paying for you to take the course so you do not need to pay for the class or meals! But you can support our organization by joining the club and coming to meetings if you would like to get to know some other hunters in the community. www.easttexassportsmansclub.org. Like us on Facebook and follow us on Instagram (Dallas Safari Club East Texas on Facebook; @easttexassportsmansclub on Instagram).
THERE ARE NO GUNS OR LIVE AMMUNITION ALLOWED BY STUDENTS OR PARENTS IN THE CLASSROOM UNLESS YOU ARE ON-DUTY LAW ENFORCEMENT. EVEN IF YOU HAVE A CONCEALED HANDGUN LICENSE, YOU CANNOT BRING A FIREARM OR LIVE AMMUNITION INTO THE CLASSROOM. THIS IS STATE LAW AND A VIOLATION COULD RESULT IN CANCELATION OF THE CLASS. Meadow Ridge does have a firearm and archery range, as well as a firearm shop. However, we will be located exclusively in the classroom in a different part of the facility.
We will have some extra chairs set up for parents who want to come and go to listen in. However, only registered students will be allowed to be present during the exam at the end of the day (unless the student needs accommodations).
If you are NOT able to attend, please contact me immediately. You will still be able to register for a class at a later date but we have a long waiting list of folks who might be able to take your place with enough notice.
If you have any questions in advance of the class, please contact me (979-571-6545) or Andrew Boatman (936-554-0270). We look forward to seeing you on Saturday!
Cheers,
Brent Ivy
