About the Course

This course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. All materials are provided. The Hunter Education Classroom Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of classroom instruction. This time does not include registration, breaks, test administration and certification card distribution. Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors. The fee for the certification is $15. Some instructors may apply additional charges for the class, such as range or facility fees. Pre-registration is required. Check with the instructor for directions and any special instructions prior to going to class.

When you arrive at the course:

  1. Pay the fee to the instructor.
  2. Attend the entire course.
  3. Take the written exam and get at least 75% correct to pass.
  4. Upon successful completion, you may receive a temporary card from the instructor. You may legally hunt with a valid Texas hunting license and your temporary certification card. Your permanent Texas Hunter Education certification card will be available for downloading and printing from your Account Profile.

INSTRUCTOR NOTES: CASH ONLY - Cost for the class is $15.00  Student lunches are provided by the Dallas Safari Club - South Texas Chapter free of charge.   Instructor: John Thompson 9:00 am – 3:30 pm ... be flexible DO NOT BRING FIREARMS OR AMMUNITION  Parents you are welcome to stay with your student, however there may not be enough seats. Students will have priority. If you decide to leave please ensure your student has a way to contact you. Once the student starts the written test, we are usually finished in 30-45 minutes. If you leave be aware of the time it takes to return. Students may bring a #2 pencil & highlighter. Books and other materials are provided by Texas Parks and Wildlife. Each student must use a unique email address, username and password in order to properly register for Hunter Education. You will need it to print out your Hunter Education completion certificate. Texas is now using an Online Registration System (ORS). You can reach the registration page from any Internet capable device. Please use the link provided below to build a unique profile for each student and sign up for the class of your choice. Be sure to remember the username and password as you will return to this web page to print your Hunter Education Certification after the class is closed out by me. The system should automatically provide you with a class reminder email about 24 hours before the class. After the class is over and I have completed entering the information from the class you will be allowed to go back to this website to print your permanent Hunter Education Certification cards.   If you have technical difficulties please call 1 (800) 792-1112 and follow the prompts to Hunter Education.
