About the Course

This course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. All materials are provided. The Hunter Education Classroom Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of classroom instruction. This time does not include registration, breaks, test administration and certification card distribution. Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors. The fee for the certification is $15. Some instructors may apply additional charges for the class, such as range or facility fees. Pre-registration is required. Check with the instructor for directions and any special instructions prior to going to class.

When you arrive at the course:

  1. Pay the fee to the instructor.
  2. Attend the entire course.
  3. Take the written exam and get at least 75% correct to pass.
  4. Upon successful completion, you may receive a temporary card from the instructor. You may legally hunt with a valid Texas hunting license and your temporary certification card. Your permanent Texas Hunter Education certification card will be available for downloading and printing from your Account Profile.

The day of the class: Priscilla Farmer and Tony Medauer of West Texas Tactical Firearms, LLC will present a Texas Parks and Wildlife Hunter Education Classroom Course for youth; ages 9 through 17 at the Abilene Gun Club on East Lake Road in Abilene, Texas. The cost of this class is $15, paid by cash only at the door on the day of the class. We will not have change, so please send the correct amount. Preregistration is required. The Skills Trail portion of this class takes place outdoors and students need to dress for the weather and wear comfortable, closed toe walking shoes/hiking boots/sneakers.  It is recommended that you send your child with a sandwich.  Snacks, bottled water, sunscreen and insect repellent will be provided by us.  Additionally, students must know their mailing address and date of birth for our paperwork. We have a very limited amount of space and will try to accommodate parents who want to stay; but can't make any promises. After you enroll your child, please send us your name and phone number by email to WTTFLLC@gmail.com - We will only use this information to contact you regarding this class and will not share your information or your child's information with anyone outside of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department registration personnel.
