About the Course

This course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. All materials are provided. The Hunter Education Classroom Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of classroom instruction. This time does not include registration, breaks, test administration and certification card distribution. Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors. The fee for the certification is $15. Some instructors may apply additional charges for the class, such as range or facility fees. Pre-registration is required. Check with the instructor for directions and any special instructions prior to going to class.

Be sure to verify with the instructor that the class you are registering for is the Classroom Course.

You may also contact your local Texas Parks and Wildlife Department office or call TPWD Austin headquarters at 1-800-792-1112, ext. 4999.

When you arrive at the course:

  1. Pay the fee to the instructor.
  2. Attend the entire course.

Lunch Break 12:00pm to 1:00pm This course has an additional 5 dollar cost in addition to the 15 dollar fee. The extra fee covers the expense of the meeting room. I will cover the cost of pizza for lunch! Help spread the word. Registration! Everyone must use a unique email address, it is required.  A parent or friend cannot register someone with their email address.  The same email address may not be used twice.  The email address is part of the security protocol and used to identify the user.  Texas Parks and Wildlife Department are working on allowing students to register for a class without an email address.  The problem with that is, they will not be able to log in and make changes to their profile. They will have to call TPWD when they get a valid email address in the future.  They have found that there are a lot more children without email addresses than first thought and we want to accommodate them. I recommend if you are the parent or legal guardian create an email account for them and share the account with them when age appropriate.
