About the Course

This course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. All materials are provided. The Hunter Education Classroom Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of classroom instruction. This time does not include registration, breaks, test administration and certification card distribution. Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors. The fee for the certification is $15. Some instructors may apply additional charges for the class, such as range or facility fees. Pre-registration is required. Check with the instructor for directions and any special instructions prior to going to class.

When you arrive at the course:

  1. Pay the fee to the instructor.
  2. Attend the entire course.
  3. Take the written exam and get at least 75% correct to pass.
  4. Upon successful completion, you may receive a temporary card from the instructor. You may legally hunt with a valid Texas hunting license and your temporary certification card. Your permanent Texas Hunter Education certification card will be available for downloading and printing from your Account Profile.

Check our FAQ page.   HUNTER ED BASIC COURSE The class will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2019, from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM at Texas A&M-Commerce in the College of Agricultural building, 2nd floor, Room 253. The address for the campus is: 2600 Neal, Commerce, Texas 75428. The building location is B7 on the campus mapThere is a parking lot, 21 and 23 on the map, adjacent to that building at the corner of Bryan and Stonewall.  Click on map link below for location.     The class will start at 9:00 AM. Please plan to arrive around 8:45. We will have a team member meet students and escort them to the classroom. Cost for this class is $15.00 per student. If the student is a minor (under 17 years old), an authorized adult must stay long enough to sign the TPWD registration form so that the student can participate in the class. Please note that while a student under 9 years old may take the Hunter Education Course, the minimum age of certification is 9 years old. The class begins at 9:00 AM and is 6 hours of classroom instruction including practical exercises in safe firearm handling and obstacle crossing. There is a written exam (multiple choice questions) at the end of the class, and the student must score at least 75% to pass. We should conclude the class around 5:00 PM. We will take a break for lunch around noon, so please either bring something for lunch, or there are several nearby options for lunch. Students are responsible for their own lunch and transportation needs. Please do not bring firearms or ammunition to class; all class materials are supplied by the instructor.
