About the Course

This course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. All materials are provided. The Hunter Education Classroom Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of classroom instruction. This time does not include registration, breaks, test administration and certification card distribution. Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors. The fee for the certification is $15. Some instructors may apply additional charges for the class, such as range or facility fees. Pre-registration is required. Check with the instructor for directions and any special instructions prior to going to class.

When you arrive at the course:

  1. Pay the fee to the instructor.
  2. Attend the entire course.
  3. Take the written exam and get at least 75% correct to pass.
  4. Upon successful completion, you may receive a temporary card from the instructor. You may legally hunt with a valid Texas hunting license and your temporary certification card. Your permanent Texas Hunter Education certification card will be available for downloading and printing from your Account Profile.

This course is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus #3444 to promote safe hunting to youth and adults.  This is a 6 hour course and we will have short breaks to keep everyone actively engaged and comfortable. Students can bring snacks and drinks. The hall will have a concession for snacks and drinks to purchase during the course. Bring pencil and notepad. Do not bring any firearms or ammunition.

Hunter Education training is Mandatory for anyone born on or after September 2, 1971. Proof of Hunter Education Training may be required at any time by a Texas Game Warden. The class is a one day class, and concludes with a written test. The classroom course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above. Parents of youth are welcome to sit in and help monitor/audit  the class with their son or daughter. If you are  concerned about your child absorbing the material or their test taking,  We recommend using  the on-line course as a pre-study / homework.  Then take the Basic classroom version to repeat / reinforce the material and add learning / comprehension. We truly want everyone to do  well and pass the test.

Please pay instructors in cash, no checks or cards, upon arrival. Students must be registered online to be on the roster to receive a grade for certification. Youth groups are welcome to attend but must register each individual online. If you cannot make the course on the date registered please take your name off the roster using your online registration sign-in or to change to another date. This will help others wanting to sign up for this course if the course is full. Your permanent Texas Hunter Education certification card will be available for downloading and printing from your Account Profile.
