About the Course

This course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. All materials are provided. The Hunter Education Classroom Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of classroom instruction. This time does not include registration, breaks, test administration and certification card distribution. Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors. The fee for the certification is $15. Some instructors may apply additional charges for the class, such as range or facility fees. Pre-registration is required. Check with the instructor for directions and any special instructions prior to going to class.

When you arrive at the course:

  1. Pay the fee to the instructor.
  2. Attend the entire course.
  3. Take the written exam and get at least 75% correct to pass.
  4. Upon successful completion, you may receive a temporary card from the instructor. You may legally hunt with a valid Texas hunting license and your temporary certification card. Your permanent Texas Hunter Education certification card will be available for downloading and printing from your Account Profile.

Texas Hunter Education Certification Course will be held at Cabela’s – 1 Cabela Drive, Allen, TX 75002, on July 14, 2019, from 10am - 5pm in the conference room.  Once inside Cabela’s, for directions to the conference room see door greeter or customer service. The classroom will be filled on a first come-first serve basis, classes fill quickly.  Doors at Cabela’s open at 9am get there early to pay for your class; class will start promptly at 10am. Minimum age for certification is 9 years old by the day of the class.  Students 13 years of age and under will need to be accompanied by an adult.  Parents/Guardians will need to fill out paperwork in the classroom before start of class for ALL students under the age of 17. The cost of the course is $15.00 payable prior to the start of the class.  Please bring exact change in the amount of $15.00 the day of the class.  You can pay with $15.00 exact Cash, Check or Money Order.  Payment with Credit/Debit card is accepted with an additional $1.00 processing fee. Lunch will be available onsite at a reasonable cost, and everyone will be given an opportunity at the beginning of class to order a lunch.  Students may bring their own lunch if they choose, or may obtain lunch offsite, but be aware that lunch will be 30 minutes so that we can keep the class on schedule. You do not need to bring anything with you to class, everything will be provided by the instructors.
