About the Course

This course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. All materials are provided. The Hunter Education Classroom Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of classroom instruction. This time does not include registration, breaks, test administration and certification card distribution. Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors. The fee for the certification is $15. Some instructors may apply additional charges for the class, such as range or facility fees. Pre-registration is required. Check with the instructor for directions and any special instructions prior to going to class.

When you arrive at the course:

  1. Pay the fee to the instructor.
  2. Attend the entire course.
  3. Take the written exam and get at least 75% correct to pass.
  4. Upon successful completion, you may receive a temporary card from the instructor. You may legally hunt with a valid Texas hunting license and your temporary certification card. Your permanent Texas Hunter Education certification card will be available for downloading and printing from your Account Profile.

DO NOT BRING FIREARMS OR AMMUNITION TO THIS CLASS! Because of COVID and variants while we are in MRRA we will follow their mask requirements. Everyone should bring a mask and be prepared to wear it if required. Hand sanitizer and wipes are recommended for personal use. Cost for the class is $15.00 cash only. Each student must use a unique email address, username and password in order to properly register for Hunter Education. You will the username and password to return to and print out your Hunter Education certificate. If you decide to leave please ensure your student has a way to contact you and be aware of the travel time to return. Once the student starts the written test, we are usually finished within an hour. There is NO lunch facility onsite. Students should bring a sack lunch going out for lunch slows the class progress. Students are responsible for cleaning up after themselves. Students should bring a #2 pencil & highlighter. Books and other materials are provided by Texas Parks and Wildlife. The system will automatically provide you with a class reminder via email about 24 hours before the class. When the class is over and I have completed entering the test scores you will receive an email to go back to the website to print your permanent Hunter Education Certification cards.  Be sure to remember the username and password you set up to enroll in this class because you will need them to return to print your Hunter Education Certificate.
