About the Course

This course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. All materials are provided. The Hunter Education Classroom Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of classroom instruction. This time does not include registration, breaks, test administration and certification card distribution. Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors. The fee for the certification is $15. Some instructors may apply additional charges for the class, such as range or facility fees. Pre-registration is required. Check with the instructor for directions and any special instructions prior to going to class.

When you arrive at the course:

  1. Pay the fee to the instructor.
  2. Attend the entire course.
  3. Take the written exam and get at least 75% correct to pass.
  4. Upon successful completion, you may receive a temporary card from the instructor. You may legally hunt with a valid Texas hunting license and your temporary certification card. Your permanent Texas Hunter Education certification card will be available for downloading and printing from your Account Profile.

INSTRUCTOR NOTES: NO FIREARMS OR AMMUNITION ARE ALLOW IN THE TRAINING ROOM! Parents who are not taking the class can bring a cased firearm to practice on the indoor range. Contact the range for fees and requirements. Location and sponsor, Hawkeye Shooting Academy-Indoor Gun Range, 119 North 19 street Temple, TX 76504 Phone 254 295 0951 or website http://www.hawkeye.academy/. Cost for the class is $15.00 cash to be paid to the instructors upon registration. Must have 5 students signed up to conduct the class. Please sign up online to reserve a seat. If you cannot attend the class after sign up please log back in to cancel, so someone who is waiting to be able to sign up. Class room time is from 1 to 7 pm and flexible with the end time. Parents you are welcome to stay with your student, however students will have priority seating. If you decide to leave please ensure your student has a way to contact you and be aware of the travel time to return. Once the student starts the written test, we are usually finished within an hour. You are welcome to bring a sack lunch with drinks. You are responsible for cleaning up after yourself. Students may also bring a #2 pencil & highlighter. Books and other materials are provided by Texas Parks and Wildlife. After the class is over and I have completed entering the test scores you will need to go back to the website to print your permanent Hunter Education Certification cards. Be sure to remember the username and password you set up to enroll in this class because you will need them to return to print your Hunter Education Certificate.
