About the Course

This course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. All materials are provided. The Hunter Education Classroom Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of classroom instruction. This time does not include registration, breaks, test administration and certification card distribution. Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors. The fee for the certification is $15. Some instructors may apply additional charges for the class, such as range or facility fees. Pre-registration is required. Check with the instructor for directions and any special instructions prior to going to class.

When you arrive at the course:

  1. Pay the fee to the instructor.
  2. Attend the entire course.
  3. Take the written exam and get at least 75% correct to pass.
  4. Upon successful completion, you may receive a temporary card from the instructor. You may legally hunt with a valid Texas hunting license and your temporary certification card. Your permanent Texas Hunter Education certification card will be available for downloading and printing from your Account Profile.

This class is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 3444 of Temple. We will be following the State of Texas and KC Hall safety protocol. Students of age 13 and under will need to be chaperone by an adult. Register only the student and not the adult attending with the student as a chaperon. There is no charge for the adult attending the class as the chaperon for the student. Please send an email if attending as a chaperon so we can make arrangement for seating. If registering several students or youth make sure the student has his own email address. If you use the same email for several students the system may or may not register the student. Must be registered to be on the roster to receive your Hunter Education certificate. The fee is $15 cash upon arrival to the course, no checks or credit cards. Students are welcome to bring snacks and drinks to the classroom table. We will have breaks during the course. Bring pencils and a Hi-Liter to mark and take notes in the workbook. The room is limited to attendance registered for social distancing if you signed up and cannot make the course please take your name off  your registration sign up. Governor’s Notice: "Every person in Texas shall wear a face covering over the nose and mouth when inside a commercial entity or other building or space open to the public, or when in an outdoor public space, wherever it is not feasible to maintain six feet of social distancing from another person not in the same household."
