About the Course

This course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. All materials are provided. The Hunter Education Classroom Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of classroom instruction. This time does not include registration, breaks, test administration and certification card distribution. Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors. The fee for the certification is $15. Some instructors may apply additional charges for the class, such as range or facility fees. Pre-registration is required. Check with the instructor for directions and any special instructions prior to going to class.

When you arrive at the course:

  1. Pay the fee to the instructor.
  2. Attend the entire course.
  3. Take the written exam and get at least 75% correct to pass.
  4. Upon successful completion, you may receive a temporary card from the instructor. You may legally hunt with a valid Texas hunting license and your temporary certification card. Your permanent Texas Hunter Education certification card will be available for downloading and printing from your Account Profile.

Safari Club International Houston is hosting their 17th annual, award winning, Hunter Education Class to be held Saturday, June 26, from 8:00 – 6:00 PM, at Long Acres Ranch in Richmond. This course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above, but is open to all ages. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics, survival and wildlife conservation as well as hands-on Skills Trail and Live Fire. All materials are provided; you will need to bring personals including mask, disposable gloves, pencil, hi-liter for marking in the Manual. Why attend THIS course:
  1. a) SCI Houston is paying the registration fee of $15 = NO CHARGE.
  2. b) SCI Houston is providing breakfast (donuts, kolaches, coffee) to students and family.
  3. c) SCI Houston is providing lunch to students and family.
  4. d) SCI Houston is providing water and snacks throughout the day to students and family.
  5. e) SCI Houston is offering some really cool door prizes! Prizes will also be given away for group participation.
Parents should attend with their child because:
  1. You will then know what we are teaching and help reinforce FYI, we move quickly through the material and your help may be required to make sure your child keeps up.
  2. Your child may feel more comfortable with you there and ask questions.
  3. We will be very busy presenting the best, most effective and fun learning experience possible and count on you to be in charge of discipline and adherence to safety and health protocols for yourself and your child.
Pre-registration is required. This class will practice social distancing, mask requirements and follow all Ft Bend County Covid 19 guidelines.
