About the Course

This course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. All materials are provided. The Hunter Education Classroom Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of classroom instruction. This time does not include registration, breaks, test administration and certification card distribution. Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors. The fee for the certification is $15. Some instructors may apply additional charges for the class, such as range or facility fees. Pre-registration is required. Check with the instructor for directions and any special instructions prior to going to class.

When you arrive at the course:

  1. Pay the fee to the instructor.
  2. Attend the entire course.
  3. Take the written exam and get at least 75% correct to pass.
  4. Upon successful completion, you may receive a temporary card from the instructor. You may legally hunt with a valid Texas hunting license and your temporary certification card. Your permanent Texas Hunter Education certification card will be available for downloading and printing from your Account Profile.

ENTRANCE:        2335 Richmond Parkway / Williams Way, Richmond 77469 =  ENTER  at the Main Gate under the LONG ACRES RANCH sign located across from the Veranda subdivision entrance (go PAST the large brick CITY OF RICHMOND sign).  You will see the Education Building on your RIGHT; enter on the RIGHT side – NOT the main entrance. DETAILS:  This is an instructor-led Basic Classroom course with videos, discussions and hands-on Skills Trail and Live Fire (we provide everything). BRING: water, hat, sunglasses, closed-toe shoes and be prepared for the outdoors → hot or cold. BRING snacks and beverages and your lunch – you can eat and drink in the classroom. BRING a hiliter to mark information in the manual you will be given. BRING the fee of $15.00 in CASH – exact amount, please, so we don’t have to handle money. A parent is required to sign documents for students 16 and younger.  Parents should attend with their child because:
  1. You will then know what we are teaching and help reinforce concepts. FYI, we move quickly through the
material and your help may be required to make sure your child keeps up.
  1. Your child may feel more comfortable with you there and ask questions.
  2. We will be very busy presenting the best, most effective and fun learning experience possible and count on you
to be in charge of discipline and adherence to safety protocols for yourself and your child. FYI parents: you may be grandfathered in Texas and not want to take Hunter Ed, but the certification will be required if you want to hunt out of state, by some Texas landowners, or outside the US.
