About the Course

This course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. All materials are provided. The Hunter Education Classroom Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of classroom instruction. This time does not include registration, breaks, test administration and certification card distribution. Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors. The fee for the certification is $15. Some instructors may apply additional charges for the class, such as range or facility fees. Pre-registration is required. Check with the instructor for directions and any special instructions prior to going to class.

When you arrive at the course:

  1. Pay the fee to the instructor.
  2. Attend the entire course.
  3. Take the written exam and get at least 75% correct to pass.
  4. Upon successful completion, you may receive a temporary card from the instructor. You may legally hunt with a valid Texas hunting license and your temporary certification card. Your permanent Texas Hunter Education certification card will be available for downloading and printing from your Account Profile.

LOCATION:         2335 Richmond Parkway / Williams Way, Richmond 77469 =  ENTER  at the Main Gate under the LONG ACRES RANCH sign located across from the Veranda subdivision / Circle Seven Drive / entrance (if you are coming from Hwy 59, go PAST the large brick CITY OF RICHMOND sign on Williams Way).  You will see the Education Building on your RIGHT; enter on the RIGHT side – NOT the main entrance. DETAILS:  This is an instructor-led Basic Classroom course with videos, discussions and hands-on Skills Trail and Live Fire (we provide everything--DO NOT BRING FIREARMS!). REGISTRATION:  Class starts PROMPTLY at 8:00 AM – Registration will be open at 7:30 AM.  Please stay home if you have any symptoms or have been around anyone with symptoms of fever, sore throat, muscle aches, etc.  Please let us know if you are NOT coming. Parent is required to sign TPWD Release for students under 16 which will be provided at the class. HOURS:  Class starts PROMPTLY at 8 AM and we should finish around 5:00-5:30 PM depending on how much time students need to finish. BRING LIST:  In order to provide the safest, healthiest environment, you MUST BRING:
  1. Hi Liter for marking in the Manual we will give you.
  2. Bring your Lunch, snacks and water: you can eat and drink during the class.
  3. Bring a hat: we will be outside in the afternoon
  4. Be sure to wear CLOSED-TOE SHOES appropriate for mud.
  5. CASH: The fee of $15.00 in CASHexact amount, please, so we don’t have to handle a lot of money.
Parents should attend with their child because:
  1. You will then know what we are teaching and help reinforce concepts. FYI, we move quickly through the material and your help may be required to make sure your child keeps up.
  2.  Your child may feel more comfortable with you there and ask questions.
  3.  We will be very busy presenting the best, most effective and fun learning experience possible and count on you to be in charge of discipline and adherence to safety and health protocols for yourself and your child.
  4.  Only registered students will participate in Live Fire, but we will also have hands-on firearm handling, so parents may assist their child or, possibly, increase their own knowledge.
If you cannot attend, please email or text me ASAP that you will not be attending so we can release the seat. Please let me know names of ALL who are attending other than those who are registered like the parent or family member also attending.  Also, please let me know of friends sitting together so we can have enough tables and arrange them.
