About the Course

This course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. All materials are provided. The Hunter Education Classroom Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of classroom instruction. This time does not include registration, breaks, test administration and certification card distribution. Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors. The fee for the certification is $15. Some instructors may apply additional charges for the class, such as range or facility fees. Pre-registration is required. Check with the instructor for directions and any special instructions prior to going to class.

When you arrive at the course:

  1. Pay the fee to the instructor.
  2. Attend the entire course.
  3. Take the written exam and get at least 75% correct to pass.
  4. Upon successful completion, you may receive a temporary card from the instructor. You may legally hunt with a valid Texas hunting license and your temporary certification card. Your permanent Texas Hunter Education certification card will be available for downloading and printing from your Account Profile.

This Texas Hunter Education Classroom course (this is the ENTIRE course) will be offered Saturday, October 28th, 2017 - beginning at  8:30am and ending about 4:30pm - at Abilene Gun Club, 6833 East Lake Road, Abilene, TX 79601 (east side of Lake Fort Phantom Hill) We will take 15 students in this class. The door will be open at 8:15am and students are encouraged to arrive timely in order to fill out paperwork etc., prior to the class start time of 8:30.  Students will need to bring a brown bag lunch with snacks; to keep them focused and comfortable. Instructors will provide plenty of bottled water for the students throughout the day. In addition, they will need eye and hearing protection, a ball cap and they must wear closed toe shoes. Dressing for the weather is a must. This class is $15 and you can pay cash or check at the door. There are no additional charges. Students will be given a paper temporary Hunter Education Student Certification document when they leave the class and can print their permanent certificate off of the TPWD website.
