About the Course

This course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. All materials are provided. The Hunter Education Classroom Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of classroom instruction. This time does not include registration, breaks, test administration and certification card distribution. Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors. The fee for the certification is $15. Some instructors may apply additional charges for the class, such as range or facility fees. Pre-registration is required. Check with the instructor for directions and any special instructions prior to going to class.

When you arrive at the course:

  1. Pay the fee to the instructor.
  2. Attend the entire course.
  3. Take the written exam and get at least 75% correct to pass.
  4. Upon successful completion, you may receive a temporary card from the instructor. You may legally hunt with a valid Texas hunting license and your temporary certification card. Your permanent Texas Hunter Education certification card will be available for downloading and printing from your Account Profile.

Ok, folks! It's that time again! Its time to start planning for the 19th annual, award winning, SCI HOUSTON HUNTER EDUCATION CLASS! Date May 20, 2023 from 8am-4pm. Class will be held in Richmond, Tx at the historic Long Acres Ranch. Open to ages 9 and older. The Houston chapter of Safari Club International is the largest SCI chapter in the world and hosts one of the largest hunter education programs in the nation! SCI HOUSTON covers all expenses for this class. Breakfast, lunch, bottled water and snacks provided as well! Lunch will be provided, courtesy of our friends at Bonfire Wings! Lots of cool prizes, too! This class will be everything necessary to obtain the TPWD Hunters Education requirements for all participants over the age of 9 years old. We will have the classroom portion and exam as well as the field exercises. We have space for 100 attendees, all children must be accompanied by a guardian, adults are encouraged to participate in the class as well. This event will be held under a covered pavilion with fans and circulation to keep things comfortable. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any special needs or concerns.
