About the Course

This course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. All materials are provided. The Hunter Education Classroom Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of classroom instruction. This time does not include registration, breaks, test administration and certification card distribution. Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors. The fee for the certification is $15. Some instructors may apply additional charges for the class, such as range or facility fees. Pre-registration is required. Check with the instructor for directions and any special instructions prior to going to class.

When you arrive at the course:

  1. Pay the fee to the instructor.
  2. Attend the entire course.
  3. Take the written exam and get at least 75% correct to pass.
  4. Upon successful completion, you may receive a temporary card from the instructor. You may legally hunt with a valid Texas hunting license and your temporary certification card. Your permanent Texas Hunter Education certification card will be available for downloading and printing from your Account Profile.

The Greenville Police Department will be hosting a two day Hunter Education class August 3 - August 4 2023 for youth age 9-17. On August 3rd students will arrive at the Greenville Police Department at 8:45 am and classroom instruction will be given in the community room on the 2nd floor. Lunch will be provided for the students on August 3rd. Class will end at 4:00 pm. On August 4th students will arrive at the Greenville Police Department Range located at 376 Co Rd 2146, Greenville, TX 75402 at 8:00 a.m. Range Day will consist of a live fire event along with hands on skills practical's learned from the classroom portion. Students will need to dress appropriate for the weather and will need to wear long pants and closed footwear for the field portion. Water and breakfast will be provided by the Greenville Police Department. There is no seating at the range so if you want to bring a folding chair you can do so. Remember that it is hot this time of the year in Texas and drink plenty of water the night before the field day portion to help prevent de-hydration. No personal firearms are permitted in both classroom and on the range. The only firearms that will be permitted are those that are supplied by the Greenville Police Department under the direction of the Range Officer. Students must attend both days to receive credit and certification for Hunter Education. Cost of class is $15.00. Please bring exact change and we do not accept credit cards. The $15.00 covers State Certification, snacks, drinks, lunch, and a Greenville Police Department Hunter Education Graduate Shirt.
