About the Course

Hunting & Shooting Sports 101 courses including, but are not limited to, Deer, Turkey, Hog, Waterfowl, Dove, Upland Game, Small Game, Western Big Game, Bow Hunting, Black Powder, Crossbows, Basic Firearm, Sporting Clays, Big Bore Rifle, Handgun, Silhouettes, 3-Gun, Trapper Education and Outdoor Survival. These 3-to-8 hour, hands-on seminars and workshops are designed for family members of all ages to learn more about the animals hunted, tools used in hunting and the shooting sports, and where to go in Texas to enjoy these activities. NOTE: Advanced courses do NOT issue the required hunter education certification. However, some advanced courses, such as bow hunter education, may issue separate certifications.

TRAPPING 101

  • Learn the ethical and humane practices for responsible trapping.
  • Course is both classroom and field exercises (more hands-on than classroom)
  • Participants set and run an actual working trap line.
  • Equipment, baits, lures, scents and 'how to' topics covered.
  • Field dressing, fur harvest, pelt management and carcass disposition taught and demonstrated.
  • Camping is available onsite.  Please bring your tents, camping supplies, personal items and a camp chair.
  • You need a 'Nalgene' type bottle for the workshop as we are in the field most of the weekend.
  • Meals are potluck if you wish to participate.  Please bring your favorite dishes to share.  Limited refrigeration is available, please have an ice chest if needed.  Please bring food to share.
  • Course occurs rain, freeze, snow or shine.  Please prepare for adverse weather conditions.
