About the Course
Hunting & Shooting Sports 101 courses including, but are not limited to, Deer, Turkey, Hog, Waterfowl, Dove, Upland Game, Small Game, Western Big Game, Bow Hunting, Black Powder, Crossbows, Basic Firearm, Sporting Clays, Big Bore Rifle, Handgun, Silhouettes, 3-Gun, Trapper Education and Outdoor Survival. These 3-to-8 hour, hands-on seminars and workshops are designed for family members of all ages to learn more about the animals hunted, tools used in hunting and the shooting sports, and where to go in Texas to enjoy these activities. NOTE: Advanced courses do NOT issue the required hunter education certification. However, some advanced courses, such as bow hunter education, may issue separate certifications.Be sure to verify that the class you are registering for is the Hunting 101 Optional Course.

- This is a HANDS-ON class.
- Topics include survival priorities, shelter construction, fire starting techniques, knots, map and compass, foraging and plan recognition, survival first aid and more.
- Stop the Bleed certifications is included with the first aid portion of class.
- Your foraging and food gathering skills are put the test.
- You'll experience constructing your own shelter from found materials and enjoying a night under the stars.
- Friday night is camping on your own. There is no charge for camping in the classroom area. Please bring a tent and your camping equipment. If you choose to 'rent' a space in the park, it is at your expense.
- Personal items, a 'Nalgene' type water bottle and camp chair are a MUST!
- I'll feed you Friday night and breakfast Saturday and Sunday morning. It won't be 3-star Michelin, but it will keep you alive! Saturday supper is what you can forage or scavenge.
