About the Course

Hunting & Shooting Sports 101 courses including, but are not limited to, Deer, Turkey, Hog, Waterfowl, Dove, Upland Game, Small Game, Western Big Game, Bow Hunting, Black Powder, Crossbows, Basic Firearm, Sporting Clays, Big Bore Rifle, Handgun, Silhouettes, 3-Gun, Trapper Education and Outdoor Survival. These 3-to-8 hour, hands-on seminars and workshops are designed for family members of all ages to learn more about the animals hunted, tools used in hunting and the shooting sports, and where to go in Texas to enjoy these activities. NOTE: Advanced courses do NOT issue the required hunter education certification. However, some advanced courses, such as bow hunter education, may issue separate certifications.

Hunting for Conservation Workshop - A Conservation Leaders for Tomorrow Short Course
  • TPWD provides this workshop to staff and community partners as a mission-focused professional development opportunity intended to help attendees better understand why hunting is important to conservation efforts. National CLfT staff and instructors as well as some of our very own TPWD Hunter Education staff will lead the 1 ½ day workshop. All coursework and activities are designed to benefit individuals with little to no hunting experience and limited outdoor knowledge and skills. As a TPWD employee, this course will help provide a deeper understanding of our mission and the stewardship of natural resources.
  • All participants will complete a pre- and post-workshop survey to help us evaluate the program, participant experience, and improvement of future workshops.

Hunting for Conservation Workshop Details:
  • April 25 and half day Wed. April 26, 2023.
  • Texas 4-H Conference Center, an outdoor camp on Lake Brownwood.
  • The price per employee is lodging and meals due at time of registration  (check or charge card).
  • Dormitory-style lodging; other lodging available depending on available space.
  • There will be a  Wild Game Dinner on Tuesday evening.  Please let us know of any dietary restrictions.
  • NO COST per partner or individual not otherwise being reimbursed by TPWD.
  • Additional half day is added on Wednesday afternoon for those who want to complete a Hunter Education Course, including live-fire exercises (.22 rifles) and a final exam. Added Cost - $15.00
